The green and sunny town of Coronado is located just 10 kilometres
northeast of the centre of the capital, San José, on the outskirts of a nature
reserve. Coronado is a lively town with an active community life and is also a
preferred residential area for many citizens of San José. Situated at the foot
of a mountain, the town offers an amazing view across the Central Valley. Attractions
include a beautiful gothic church, and the sandy beaches of the Pacific coast
are just two hours car drive away.
The School
The LSI affiliated school Academia Tica was founded in 1986 and is one of the longest established Spanish language schools in Costa Rica. The school is beautifully located in the middle of a tropical garden, on the grounds of an old farm. The surrounding area is full of green pastures, and dairy cattle ranches. There is a bus stop directly outside the school and the facility to hire bicycles free of charge.
The school has 7 bright classrooms, a reference library, internet connection, large gardens and a cafeteria.
The Courses
General and Examination Courses
Standard 20
A course with 20 lessons per week, covering all aspects of the language from pronunciation to grammar and vocabulary to practice in the four skills.
Intensive 30
Suitable for students who wish to study intensively and get a well rounded insight into the language and country. Students follow a Standard 20 course in the morning, then intensify and consolidate the tuition in the afternoon classes.
Work Experience Programmes
There are many different work experiences programmes available at San José varying from 2 to 24 weeks in length. Some will involve work placements within companies whereas others entail working in social institutons or National Parks.Please contact us for more details.
Diploma Espanol como Lengua Extranjera (DELE)
These diplomas are highly regarded in the Spanish speaking world and are often a prerequisite for employment, further education or enrolment at a university. LSI offers carefully planned examination courses for the Basico and Superior courses, for which school level Spanish is the minimum language requirement.
