Bildungsurlaub Recognition

Language students from Germany have the right to 5 paid days of educational leave per year - a total of 10 paid days within 2 calendar years. Bildungsurlaub is offered by most (but not all) federal states. The main factor is the federal state in which the workplace is located, not the one where the place of residence is.

Language courses must have a minimum number of lessons per week in order to qualify for Bildungsfreistellung recognition. LSI intensive and exam courses are examples of these.

LSI offers Bildungsurlaub recognised courses in the following languages and destinations:

Bildungsurlaub Englisch: England, USA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand
Bildungsurlaub Französisch: France

LSI has valid recognitions for the following federal states:

Baden-Württemberg (only England and France)
Berlin
Bremen
Hamburg
Hessen
Niedersachsen
Rheinland-Pfalz
Saarland
Sachsen-Anhalt (English only)
Schleswig-Holstein

On request, we will apply for Bildungszeit recognition for the other federal states, apart from Bayern, Sachsen, Thüringen and Nordrhein-Westfalen.

The Bildungsurlaub recognition process normally takes 8 – 12 weeks to complete.
