San Francisco / Berkeley - you'll leave your heart in San Francisco!
Berkeley, home of the world famous University of California, is a colourful and friendly student-oriented city that lies just across the bay from San Francisco. Located in Northern California, the San Francisco Bay Area affords a wealth of famous attractions and tourist sites. Berkeley itself has beautiful parks, great restaurants and shopping, and the attractions of San Francisco are just a short bus or train ride away. To the North and West is the Gold Country, where gold was discovered in 1849, and the Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks are just a few hours drive away.
The School
LSI Berkeley was established in 1980 and is located in downtown Berkeley, close to bus and underground stations and a few blocks from the University campus. The area has many restaurants, movie theatres, coffee shops, bookstores and other services (see map of school location.
The school has nine classrooms including two student computer rooms with free internet access, a student resource library, and indoor and outdoor common areas. We are an official test center for the Cambridge Business English Certificate (BEC) which means that students can sit the examination in the school.Enjoy leisure and social activities with fellow students, teachers and hosts, or join organised trips to spectacular sites all over California.

The Courses
General and Examination
Courses
Standard 20
A course with 20 lessons per week, covering all aspects of the language from pronunciation to grammar and vocabulary to practice in the four skills.
Intensive 30
Suitable for students who wish to study intensively and get a well rounded insight into the language and country. Students follow a Standard 20 course in the morning, then intensify and consolidate the tuition in the afternoon classes.
Plus Courses
One-to-One classes tailored to your needs, designed to supplement group courses.
English for Business Course
An afternoon option on the English language LSI Intensive 30 course, covering topics such as Banking and Stock Markets, Marketing and Advertising, Recruitment, Sales and Negotiating.
International School Year Intensive 30

International School Year Standard 20
20 lessons per week
An excellent opportunity to learn a new language, immerse yourself in a new culture and make friends from all over the world.
Study and Work Programme
For the first 4 to 8 weeks you study an LSI Intensive 30 course to increase your fluency and build confidence with the language. We then place you in a work experience position closely related to your career interests or educational background, allowing you to gain the skills and confidence to pursue your chosen career.
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) Preparation
TOEFL is required by non-native speakers of English for admission to universities in the USA and Canada. Preparation for this test at LSI is an afternoon option on the LSI Intensive 30 course.
TOEIC Preparation
This test is accepted by thousands of companies as evidence of proficiency in English in a business situation. Preparation for this exam is an afternoon option on the LSI Intensive 30.
Berkeley is an Official TOEIC testing center.
